Hello, I'm Cat S.
Welcome to Brighton Unitarian Church. Our church welcomes all who wish to worship in an atmosphere of mutual respect and freedom. We are a diverse and vibrant community and do not insist that each person has the same beliefs. We provide a caring environment with spiritual depth, without dogma, offering a community resource to diverse groups in congruence with our values, promoting a diversity of Unitarianism nationally, with a concern for a more compassionate world. We are a member of the General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches, the umbrella organisation for British Unitarians. Our magnificent stuccoed Greek Revival building, inspired by the ancient temple of Theseus in Athens, occupies a prominent position near the corner of Church Street and New Road in the centre of Brighton, near the Royal Pavilion in the heart of the cultural quarter of the city. It has enjoyed Grade II listed status since 1952. Our weekly church services take place on Sundays at 11am and the church is open for spiritual nourishment on Wednesday lunchtimes. We are proud to house two lovely grand pianos - a Steinway in the church and a Blüthner in the church hall, which are regularly tuned and can be booked for rehearsals and used by hirers of the space. We hold weekly fundraising concerts in the church on Friday lunchtimes (12.30-1.15pm, suggested donation £5, refreshments available from midday) showcasing both top local talent and touring musicians from across the globe. We also host a wide variety of music events of all genres within our reverberant walls, as well as weddings, funerals and naming ceremonies. Both the church and church hall are used by local groups and charities for regular activities, from lectures to yoga, dance classes to art, and choir rehearsals to counselling and support groups.
